About the Founder

My name is Elisabeth Zelenka, and I am the founder of ELA my Happy Place – an organization born out of deep love for animals and a desire to help the most vulnerable. Our mission is to improve the living conditions of stray and sick dogs in Sri Lanka – a country where hundreds of animals face hunger, disease, and human neglect every single day.

I founded ELA my Happy Place as a safe haven for homeless dogs – a place where they not only find shelter but also love, care, and a real chance at a new life. Together with a team of local volunteers and supporters from around the world, we rescue street animals, provide veterinary care, food, vaccinations, and work tirelessly to find them new homes. We also focus on educating local communities and supporting a spay/neuter program, which is a crucial step towards a long-term solution to the stray dog overpopulation.

My journey began as a personal search for a more meaningful life. Sri Lanka showed me its beauty, but also the harsh reality of animal suffering. I decided to act – and that's how my project was born. Every rescued dog is a reminder that even the smallest act of kindness can change the world – at least for one soul.
